Collars
The single most important style option of a dress shirt is
the collar. It is always visible (even
with your suit coat on); and it frames both your face and your necktie. In selecting a collar you should consider
your body type, the proportions of your neck, and the shape of your face. You should also consider the width of your
neckties (thin or thick), and the type of knot you use; as the combined bulk of
your tie knot is important. Your decision
should be based on the factors above, and ruled by your personal sense of style,
and the look you are striving for.
The main variables in a dress collar are the Height of the Band
(measured at the back), the Length of the Points (down your lapel), and the
(width or) Spread of the Points. Most
standard off-the-rack shirts use a collar with either a Traditional or Classic
Spread (#02 & #03 below), which we also offer with Rounded Points (#08) for a softer look. One predominate type
of fashion statement is to conceal more tie knot with longer, narrower points
as in the Narrow or Classic Straight (#01); the opposing style is to reveal
more tie knot with a wider spread collar like the English Wide Spread (#06), or
the extreme English Cut Away (#41) with points almost horizontal. Button Down collars have long been popular, and it is acceptable to wear them with or without a
necktie for a business casual look; we offer both the Traditional
Button Down (#18), and the newer Hidden Button Down (#65). The Band Collar (#60) is not just for clergy
anymore; it is becoming a chic and acceptable business casual look if worn with a Blazer or Linen Suit. Back to the more formal (even flamboyant),
we are proud to offer the Classic Tab Collar (#17), which has a hidden band (or
tab) that holds the points together while showcasing your tie knot by pushing it both up and
forward. We also offer three varieties
of Contour Collar first made popular by coach
Pat Riley in the late 1980’s; the traditional
Wide Contour (#69B), the more pronounced Narrow Contour (#69A), and the extreme
“MJ” with Longer Points and a Higher Band.
Finally, we offer two High Band versions of a Spread Collar in items
#03B and #03C (which we affectionately call the Don Cherry).
All of our collars are available in the same cloth/color as
the shirt, or in contrasting white; however traditional Button Downs are almost never ordered with this option.
Cuffs
Another prominent style option of a dress shirt is the cuff. To facilitate your preferences, we offer the widest possible
selection of both Button and Link Cuffs.
We have Single and Double button ‘barrel’ cuffs, with Square, Rounded,
and Angle Cut corners. We have five
styles of Link Cuff (when you want that extra bling for a business or formal occasion),
with Square, Rounded, Angle Cut, and Contoured corners. We also offer some other variants, most notably
the Convertible Cuff which can be closed with either a Button or a Link.
Similar to our collars, cuffs are also available in the same
cloth/color as the shirt, or in contrasting white.
